Explanation of the banner of the Rotary Club of Kasugai 〜 Willow and Flog

Mr. Tohu Ono(894-967) was a famous calligrapher in Heian Era. He was born at Kasugai city.
When he was young, he fell into a slump and wanted to quit the calligraphy. On a rainy day, he walked around a pond and he found a flog jumping to a leave of willow many
times. He thought “ The flog is fool. It is impossible to touch a leave of willow.” By chance
the wind has been blowing and the branch of willow curved by the wind then the flog was
able to touch a leave.
He became aware that a fool was me and the flog made effort to be success but I didn’t
make all possible efforts. Then he did his best and became the master calligrapher calling
as the god of calligraphy.
So willow and flog are the symbol of Kasugai city.
